Woman Dies On American Airlines Flight

A woman died last week on an American Airlines flight from Haiti to JFK. Carnine Desir had told the American Airlines crew that she was feeling ill – but they refused to do anything about it until she was seriously showing signs stated a cousin who was flying with the sick woman.

Antonio Oliver says crew members twice refused to administer oxygen to the 44-year-old. When they did agree to help, Oliver says two oxygen tanks and a defibrillator failed to work.

American Airlines offered its condolences to the family. The airline says its crews are trained to handle medical emergencies, and they’re confident crew members did everything they could to help. The medical examiner says Desir, who suffered from heart disease, died of natural causes.
