Hanna To Turn Into Hurricane On Its Way To East Coast
Hanna is a tropical storm right now - but meteorologists fear that she will gain strength and turn into a hurricane as she makes her way closer to the east coast of the United States later in the week. But she is not their only worry at the moment.
New storms have appeared on the radar. Ike and Josephine made their way to the west right as Hanna was making her way over the Bahamas. The U.S. National Hurricane Center said that Ike will strengthen into a category 2 hurricane before it hit’s the Bahamas, reaching winds of 110 mph. It could hit early next week.
Ike was already near hurricane strength today, with maximum sustained winds of 70 mph as it swept across the open Atlantic 740 miles east-northeast of the Leeward Islands. The intensifying storm activity follows Hurricane Gustav, which slammed into Louisiana near New Orleans on Monday.
