Dead Shark Discovered In Lake Michigan
It is no surprise to anyone when there are dozens if not hundreds of sharks off a beach on either the east or west coast. Many fear to swim near these ‘could-be’ dangerous beaches for this reason. However, no one was expecting to spot a shark in Lake Michigan.
Richi Fasi from Traverse City told authorities that he found a 2 foot shark in the water while trying to fish on the West Grand Traverse Bay this week. He said that the shark was dead and did not pose a threat to him.
Mark Tonello - a fisheries biologist from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources - said that the shark was a young adult blacktip.
He said that it was possible that someone caught the shark off the Atlantic Coast and left it on ice while it made its return trip to Michigan. Tonello also said that the shark could have been someone’s pet and was dumped into the lake when it died.
