Today on November 4th history was made and it is something that we and our children will be talking about for years to come. Barack Obama was elected as the next President of the United States making him the first black President to run for office. He won by a landslide against Senator John McCain.

Man Criticized For Violent Political Halloween Decorations

It looks like the Presidential election inspired people when it came to how to decorate their yard for Halloween. One person put up an effigy of vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin hanging from a noose - which naturally drew a lot of negative criticsm from his neighbors. Authorities said that they weren’t able to do anything because of the citizens rights to free speech.

Fugitive Holds Classroom Hostage

On October 23rd a manhunt began for an armed fugitive. He was arrested today at an elementary school in Bangor, Maine after holding 11 children hostage inside a classroom. 55 year old Randall Hofland from Stockton Springs was seen entering the school by a teacher. The children were evacuated to the Searsport Elementary School 5 miles away. Police said that no one was injured.

Police Find Evidence Near Body Of Julian King

The Chicago Police discovered the body of Julian King nephew to singer Jennifer Hudson. Authorities also found a gun in a vacant lot close to the area where the young boy was shot inside an SUV on the West Side.

Police said that the weapon matches the caliper of the one that was used to murder three other family members. Police said that it is not uncommon for them to find weapons stashed away in an area where there is heavy gang activity. However, they were surprised to see that the gun was a .45 caliper weapon.

People Want Their Santa Back

There is a dispute right now between a veteran Santa and one of Washington’s biggest malls. According to sources the two have had problems and just when it looked like they would be working things out the Santa was fired. Much to the dismay of many of his fans.

Two Men Missing After Boats Sinks Off Of Alaskan Coast

Two fisherman had gone missing after a fish processing ship sank in a storm that struck the water off a remote Alaskan island chain. There 11 people on board. Five of the crew were dead and four managed to survive. Authorities are still searching for the other two men.

The search began Wednesday morning after an emergency signal was received from the Katmai vessel. Another ship in the area told authorities that the Katmai had contacted them during the storm and that they were heading toward Dutch Harbor.

Maine And Vermont Letting Inmates Vote

Vermont and Maine are now the only two states that allow their inmates to vote. Officials in both state that many of their inmates are interested in voting in the next election. “We do have a fair number of prisoners who are doing it,” said Jeffrey Merrill, warden at the maximum-security Maine State Prison located in Warren.

Former Cop Charged For Perjury Over Torture Case

Tuesday a former high ranking police officer from Chicago was arrested. Authorities said that lied to them when he said that he and his detectives did not torture murder suspects under his command almost decades ago. These allegations caused Chicago to pay these former inmates millions of dollars and led to Illinois’ death penalty moratorium.

Anchorwoman Attacked In Her Home

Anne Pressly - an anchorwoman in Little Rock, Arkansas - is in stable condition after she was attacked yesterday in her home. 26 year old Pressley is the anchorwoman on “Daybreak” for the ABC News in Little Rock.

Her mother - Patricia Cannady - found her daughter in her bed. Authorities stated that she had suffered blunt force trauma to the upper body and head. There was no forced entry and at this time there are no suspects.

Body Of Teen Girl Discovered In The Woods

A 17 year old girl was found dead in a swampy forest in Norfolk near the place where she had been seen last. Police had been searching for Taylor Meyer for three days after she disappeared from a homecoming football game in the woods on Friday night.

“There were no obvious signs of trauma,” Keating - Norfolk District Attorney William R. Keating - said at a noon press conference. “That doesn’t mean we know what the cause of death was. That is something that only the medical examiner’s office after their investigation can speak to with any authority.”
