The Bush administration released a statement Wednesday informing U.S. citizens that the Al-Qaida have manages to rebuild their forces and have found more remote hiding places in Pakistan. Because of this there have been more and more serious attacks leading to a high percentage of fatalities. Between 2006 and 2007 the attacks in Pakistan have nearly doubled from 375 to 887.

One of the hundreds of young polygamist-sect members that was taken into custody was admittied to the maternity ward on Tuesday and gave birth to a healthy baby boy. Outside the room was being watched by state troopers, child welfare officials, and other members of the sect. “The boy is healthy and the mother is doing well,” Patrick Crimmins, spokesman for the state Child Protective Services, said of the noontime birth at Central Texas Medical Center.

While the southern part of California is trying to put out the wildfire that is burning right outside of Los Angeles – northern California was dealing with a magnitude 5.2 earthquake that hit Tuesday evening.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey the moderate quake hit shortly after 8 p.m. (11 p.m. ET) about 11 miles east-southeast of Willow Creek, which is about 190 miles northwest of Sacramento. Nita Rowley with the Williow Creek Chamber of Commerce said she felt the earthquake as a rolling jolt, but had not received any reports of damage.

Three tornados tore through VA destroying homes and injuring more than 200 people. The first twister touched down right outside of Norfolk cutting a path that was 25 miles long through residential areas. Brenda Williams was in a manicure shop when the tornado struck. The ceiling collapsed while she was still inside and she was stuck underneath the debris until someone was able to pull her out. “I’m not lucky, I’m blessed,” said Williams, who had a 2-inch gash stitched above her left eyebrow and stitches on her right forearm. “I’m fine. I’m here. I’m in the land of the living.”

Taxpayers are waiting in anticipation for their tax checks to arrive. Today the government deposited thousands of checks into bank accounts as the stimulus program took effect. The program was started as a way to fix the economy problem.
The Internal Revenue Service started making the direct deposits on Monday with the goal of completing 800,000 payments each day over the first three days of this week. No deposits will be made Thursday while the IRS prepares a big batch of 5 million direct deposits scheduled on Friday.

Sunday grew to be a long work day for firefighters as they worked to put out a wildfire that was working its way through the brush and towards Los Angeles. The fire came early in the season than anyone predicted and forced over 1,000 people from their homes.

Rescuers spent hours trying to save a man who had fallen and survived a 500 foot fall into a strip mine. The authorities stated that Nathan Brown had been trespassing an the property that the coal company owns at 1 a.m. when he lost his footing and fell into Springdale Pit. The pit is inactive and is 700 feet deep, 1,500 feet wide, and 3,000 feet long.

A 66 year old swimmer was attacked and killed by a shark this Friday during while he was training in the ocean off of San Diego County. The man was swimming with a group of other swimmers when police believe a great white shark attacked him.
